I have always been fascinated by stories since the young age, like all kids I grew up among hundreds of stories, fairytales, believes, games and toys. As a child, we are able to invent endless stories in a few seconds. I have worked and like spending time around children and I wish not to lose that same spontaneity. Like Jean Dubuffet, whose works often appears primitive and child-like, I wish I’ll never lose that side.
When I was a child, I enjoy inventing stories and adventures, playing pirates or adventurers in the imaginary jungle, inventing obstacles and difficulties: trying to get rid of the bad people (the adults). In my works, I want the viewer to enjoy as much as I do. I make my art for the pleasure of it, I privilege the spontaneity of the idea behind the work. My works tend to be naive and generally colourful: it makes the image more alive, I want the viewer to experience my works, to see it with his child’s side, to forget every single doubt or problems he/she has in mind while seeing my works. I am inspired by ancient civilizations art such as the Aztec civilizations, myths and naive beliefs.
I have a preference in using paper, I like the feel that a book can give you, every single page is a discovery, a new surprise. I want my works to give the same feelings to the viewer, to be unpredictable and full of surprises. I do not think it has to make senses, to me, things don’t always have to make sense. My materials are generally acrylic paint and colour pens but I like mixing several mediums together depending on the effect wanted.
